ABOUT ME
Mihye Kim is a Korean-American soprano, performer, and voice teacher whose work bridges expressive artistry with thoughtful, healthy vocal training. As both a singer and pedagogue, she is passionate about helping students develop a sustainable technique while cultivating their individual artistry, musicality, and confidence.
As a performer, Dr. Kim has appeared in opera, recital, and concert repertoire spanning a wide range of musical styles. Her operatic roles include the title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Mutter in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and Clarice in Haydn’s Il mondo della luna. Her repertoire also includes Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème, Suzy in La rondine, Liù in Turandot, Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello, and Cunegonde in Bernstein’s Candide. In 2022–2023, she was awarded First Prize in the University of Northern Colorado Concerto Contest and subsequently appeared as a soloist with the university orchestra, performing vocal works by Richard Strauss.
Dr. Kim’s musical training began at Sungshin Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. She continued her studies at the Conservatorio di Musica Giordano in Foggia, Italy, where she was awarded Second Prize in the Concorso Nazionale per Giovani Musicisti. She later moved to the United States, earning a Master of Music and Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance from Temple University, followed by a Doctor of Arts in Vocal Performance with a secondary emphasis in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado, where she studied with Dr. Melissa Malde.
Her teaching experience includes serving as a Teaching Assistant in the voice area at the University of Northern Colorado, where she taught applied voice lessons to undergraduate students. Drawing from her background as a professional singer and her specialized study in vocal pedagogy, Dr. Kim approaches teaching with an emphasis on healthy vocal production, individualized technique, musical expression, and the development of each singer’s unique voice.
Based in Virginia, Dr. Kim maintains an active career as a performer and educator.
